Postharvest Studies
A number of postharvest studies have been carried out with HarvestPlus priority crops (iron beans and pearl millet; zinc rice and wheat; and provitamin A cassava, maize and sweet potato) to evaluate the nutritional content behavior and the impact in human health. This map has been built to consult the scientific evidence generated through these studies.
The map was fed by more than 80 studies shortlisted from a literature search of about 900 articles. For the search, the databases Scopus, Science Direct, Web of Science, EBSCO, Researchgate, Oxford Academic, Google Scholar as well as diverse Nutrition Journals were used. For this, filters such as (Biofortification or biofortified) and / or (crop, i.e. bean) + (postharvest study, i.e. bioavailability) + (study detail, i.e. in vivo) + (study detail II, i.e. human) has been applied. Only articles published in international peer reviewed journals were included. PHP language with Laravel framework and MySQL database was used to develop it.
The applications of the map are multiple: quick access and global visualization of postharvest studies with biofortified crops; identification of gaps in research to help determine priority research needs for a specific crop or biofortified food product; and activity planning for research purposes or potential collaborations with seed companies or food industry partners.
The studies conducted in countries such as US or in European countries were mapped in those countries were the crop of study can be used.
